Building an audience for your blog doesn’t come easily. Fortunately, we’ve prepared some handy advice for you that will surge your follower count and garner you plenty of attention.
Let People Know
While it sounds like a straightforward and obvious tip, it’s crucial that you try and get your blog out there any way possible. From telling your friends and family to posting it on Facebook, your blog is no good if it can’t be discovered. Spreading it via word of mouth is perhaps the most powerful and efficient way to do so without spending money. Make sure you build a social media presence alongside your blog so you can mix the two audiences together. For example, by linking your blog posts on your social media accounts and using social media snippets on your blog posts, you can cross the two audiences together to improve your exposure. It’s difficult to create a large blogging audience if you don’t focus on attracting audiences across multiple platforms.
Join a Blogging Network
A great way to expose your blog is to join a network of bloggers. For example, if you have a blog about DIY decorations then you may want to join a home improvement network or a DIY network. Better yet, why not join both? The goal is to increase awareness of your blog by attaching yourself to other similar blogs and networks that share your interests. That way, the audience of the networks you’re associated with will also become part of your own audience. Keep in mind that many blogging networks have rules attached to their services in order to keep the quality of posts high and to prevent their reputation from suffering. You may need to apply to join the more prestigious blogging networks, but it’s well worth the added effort.
Network With Other Bloggers
If joining a blogging network isn’t on your mind, then there’s still the option of networking with bloggers themselves. If you managed to have your blog posts shared on a more influential blogger’s feed, then you’ll garner plenty of attention. Networking also allows you to write guest posts for other websites, and you can return the favour by offering guest post spots to bloggers who are smaller than yourself. The idea is to build a network of blogging influence that is beneficial to everyone involved.
Attach Other Content
Blogging should be seen as just one form of content creation that relies on its audience for success. Other forms include video formats (YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook), image formats (DeviantArt for artists, Instagram for general images) and also audio (Soundcloud for general sounds and music files, Buzzsprout for podcasts). This only works if your content allows for it. For example, if you blog about your family life then you can use YouTube to showcase videos of you and your children or you can use Instagram to post family photographs. If you review movies, then you can create a podcast with other bloggers and content creators that discusses the latest movies and shows. The idea is to spread your influence and brand across multiple different forms of media to grow a larger audience.
